We invite you to spend a few days with your colleagues, at one of the premiere resorts in the southeast, during our 55th Annual Scientific Meeting, planned for June 2-6, 2012. Our destination this year is Amelia Island, FL, one of the southernmost of the Sea Islands, a chain of barrier islands that stretches along the east coast of the United States from South Carolina to Florida. Incidentally, Amelia Island is also home to Fernandina Beach, a popular vacation destination.

Every year, Amelia Island, FL plays host to a variety of exciting events, including the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival, the Amelia Island Jazz Festival, the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival, the Amelia Island Film Festival, the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance and the Amelia Island Blues Festival. Now, this barrier island welcomes SESPRS for what promises to be an unforgettable week! We hope you will plan to join us in June, 2012. Hotel reservations are available now. Office Staff Program

This year we have added a two day special meeting for office staff and nurses. This meeting will cover ICD 10, EMR, malpractice, ways to improve the practice, cosmetic nursing practice and many other issues of importance to physicians and their staff. Best of all, this program is offered alongside the rest of the educational program on Sunday and Monday, allowing you and your staff to make the most of your time in Amelia Island. We strongly urge member and non-member physicians to bring your staff to this meeting, which has been specially designed for them. See below for the detailed program. Keynote

Charles Bierbauer was for many years CNN's senior Washington correspondent and a veteran reporter covering national and international affairs. As a CNN correspondent, Bierbauer reported on five presidential campaigns and served as CNN's senior White House correspondent for almost a decade during the Reagan and Bush Administrations. He has traveled with American presidents to all 50 states and more than 30 nations.

He started his commercial broadcast career as a radio reporter for WKAP radio in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in 1963. He also worked in print journalism, writing for The Morning Call in Allentown. He was a reporter with the Associated Press in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (1967-68) and a correspondent in Bonn for the Chicago Daily News.

Bierbauer was an overseas correspondent for ABC News (1977-81), first as Moscow bureau chief and later as the Bonn bureau chief. Prior to that, he worked in Philadelphia, London, Bonn and Vienna as a correspondent for Westinghouse Broadcasting. He worked for CNN for 20 years. In 2001 he was reporter and producer for a Discovery Channel documentary on the September 11, 2001 attacks.

In 1997, he won an Emmy for anchoring CNN coverage of the 1996 Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta. He also is a recipient of the ACE Award from the Association for Cable Excellence and the Overseas Press Club Award for his reporting of the Yom Kippur War.

Bierbauer became the first dean of the newly merged College of Mass Communications and Information Studies at the University of South Carolina in July 2002. He is currently the dean of The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at The University of South Carolina We are very pleased to have Dr. Bierbauer deliver the keynote address for the 2012 Annual Scientific Meeting next summer.

Awards and Recognition

The announcement of the winner of our Annual Resident Paper Competition, with the winner receiving the coveted Glancy Award, and our first-ever Best Paper Competition, will be notable highlights. In addition, a presentation on the 2011 SESPRS research grant will be given. We hope you will plan to join us! More information will be provided soon.

Sporting Events

Our annual golf tournament, tennis tournament and "fun run" should provide hours of enjoyment for both you and your family! The golf tournament will be held Monday, June 4th. The annual tennis tournament, planned for Sunday, June 3rd, was a very popular activity in 2011. More information regarding these activities will be provided soon.
