Bostwick Award - Call for Abstracts SESPRS is pleased to announce the implementation of an annual educational prize began at the 2014 Atlanta Breast Symposium. The award honors Dr. John Bostwick, former Emory University Professor and Chief of Plastic Surgery. The prize will be awarded to the winner of a National contest for Residents in Plastic Surgery on research topics in breast surgery. It will include a stipend for travel and accommodations, as well as complimentary registration at the Breast Surgery Symposium. Notification is being made to Department and Division Chairs in Plastic Surgery across the United States to encourage Resident participation. According to Barry Bishop, M.D., past President of the SESPRS, "This is exactly what John would have wanted, knowing his commitment to resident education and breast surgery. After John passed, we all felt the need to honor John and the good he had done for so many during his lifetime. The Bostwick Educational Fund arose from these discussions and we felt it would be best to establish a fund dedicated to resident education." Luis Vasconez, M.D., past chief of Plastic Surgery at UAB and a close personal friend of John remembers it the same way: "We did not need a formal vote to establish a fund in John's honor. It seemed like something that needed to be done since we all loved John so much. The fact that it has grown so large from SESPRS Member contributions only is a testament to the abiding love and respect for John." Residents in Plastic Surgery must indicate a sponsor (current faculty member), and if selected for the Bostwick Award, must be able to attend the SESPRS Annual Atlanta Breast Surgery Symposium, held in January of each year, and give an oral presentation at the meeting. The abstract should be based on work that is unique and original, and cannot have been previously published or presented at a national meeting. Previous presentation at a regional meeting is acceptable. The deadline for abstract submission is November 15th. Submissions must be online through the dedicated protal.
